Modrinth Release

Would be awesome to see this on Modrinth; I think it would be a good place to let people find this plugin easier on a dedicated community platform!

Definitely since nobody uses Spigot these days so much. Hard to download from as well since they use cloudflare that goes down every now and then and you cant copy link to curl/wget to download to you server anyway.

I'm not opposed to releasing on Modrinth or Hangar, but I'm not interested in manually creating identical releases in a handful of places. I had originally been looking to use https://github.com/Kira-NT/mc-publish as a generalized solution, but it appears to be accumulating issues, and the author hasn't been active after mentioning life complications. I think it likely would work fine, but I'm leery of jumping from one sinking ship to another (the CurseForge action currently in use has its own problems with Bukkit). It also doesn't offer Hangar support, apparently because Hangar's design is a bit odd.

I'm open to suggestions for actions. I think the best looking individual actions are https://github.com/cloudnode-pro/modrinth-publish and https://github.com/benwoo1110/hangar-upload-action.

Are we talking Spigot or CurseForge here? OI is not published on SpigotMC, so if you are seeing downloads there please be aware that they are not official and I cannot speak for the safety of using them.

In terms of using wget, last I was aware you should be able to just copy the download link from the GH release unless they changed it so you must authenticate to access files. If that is the case it would be pretty solvable though, just set up a key with minimal access. You can get a link on CurseForge based on the upload's name and unique file number. Also pretty scriptable, though it does require you to copy two pieces of data. I don't remember why the more-easily-copiable redirect download link doesn't like to work, I think it was something cookie-related after badly-behaved auto-updaters effectively botted download counts on certain plugins.

I could literally be down to help you organize and keep up to date, for consistency, on Modrinth and hangar. Would give u full ownership and stuff as long as I have access to uploading version files

Honestly, I would take you up on this if it wasn't for the fact that I already have automation mostly in place for copying releases. The most "difficult" part really would be making minor rewrites to the script that scrapes versions from the release notes (or publishing the information in a specific place inside the project - the actual supported versions aren't listed the way they used to be with modules that could only support a single version).

An aside on that, boy am I glad that Mojang is moving to deobfuscated distribution in 2026. I'm looking forward to cutting the Spigot-exclusive side down to modules as small as the Paper per-version ones. It's always bothered me how much duplicate code needs to be distributed, but the alternative has historically been even more code for runtime rewrites. I guess I'm going to have to revisit my policy on past version support too, probably making it a rolling window or something like that. I'm glad they're at least committing to abandoning their now-ruined semantic versioning (not that I'm great about bumping the minor version for features either, but hey. Big corporations should be held to a higher standard).

yea i get the whole pipeline thing too, makes sense. Either way, thanks for the plugin and good to see continued support as it's served greatly on our forever world (dubbed "derex smp" affectionately by my players). Helped catch a good amount of troublemakers too

After seeing how Arrowhead studios reduced Helldivers 2 from 150 GB to 30 GB last week, I agree as it is clearly possible and big corps seem just lazy

I'll add notes to the readme with the various official download sources once the new projects get approved after the next release - looks like you have to have files for both Hangar and Modrinth to even appear in listings, which makes sense.
