LICENSE for research use

Hi,
I am interested in using some code from this repository to support a research publication. As far as I can see, this repo is unlicensed so I wouldn't be able to do that from a legal standpoint. Would the maintainers be willing to apply an appropriate license which would allow for the code to be used in research? Happy to assist in identifying one, if that is helpful.
