Is there an easy way to get directed energy weapons into the simulator?
Having a laser that once per n seconds could kill targets out to a range r
would make things interesting.  n might be a function of r, and the type of target.
And cloud cover, weather, etc.

Having a high power microwave that can knock out any target within a solid
angle Omega with probability determined by the type of target and 1/r^2 would
also be interesting.

Other considerations:

  • It might be interesting for the directed energy weapon to always choose the fire at the closest threat, but it could also be possible for it to optimize the solid angle to illuminate depending on the number of threats within that solid angle, weighted by its distance to the asset.
