Limit/guidance on number of checkpoints? #275

Hello, I was wondering if there are any limits, or practical guidance, on the maximum number of checkpoints against a qcow2 disk? If I did 90 daily backups, is that reasonable, or should I be rolling over to a fresh full backup sooner than that? (and even if it is possible, if cycling through 90 incrementals seems far too risky, I'm listening :) ) Also, my understanding is the checkpoints are only change block tracking, not copy on write overlays like a snapshot would be, so performance shouldn't be an issue as they accumulate, as traditional disk snapshots can become (fairly common issue in the VMware world I come from). They will consume some space in the qcow2 sparse file, but nothing like a series of disk snapshots. Is this correct? Thanks! |

As for performance impact, idk.
