Installation failure of OTF fonts in Windows #582

@Lofvet

Description

@Lofvet

Installation of a single OTF fonts in Windows 10 works fine, but adding more families/variants of version 7.051 produces an Windows error saying that the font already exists.

Windows afterwards "seems to think" that all variants/families of Libertinus are installed. But, e.g. Matlab 2025a detects only one of them (seems to always be the SERIF SEMIBOLD variant).

  1. Remove all Libertinus fonts.
  2. Install them anew via Settings-Fonts in Windows.
  3. After the first .OTF is installed the following Windows throws error messages.

Additional context

  • Installation of version 7.050 and 7.040 OTFs does not throw this error message, but again Matlab does not more than one variant.
  • Installation of version 7.051 TTF works fine (if all Libertinus OTF fonts are removed first).

I think this started with Matlab 2025a, but the accompanying Windows error message also suggests something is a bit off. I think I got the steps correct. I did many things trying to install the fonts including cleaning font caches (that I don't mattered in the end) before finally managed to get Matlab to accept the fonts.
