Pass strings to external programs/scripts

It would be great to be able to pass strings to external scripts as well as numbers and numerical expressions. I have a very large list of part numbers in alphanumeric format and would like to update the inventory via Python script. At the moment this fails because I cannot pass strings with the @ext function.

After re-reading the help, I found the solution. It works via a label and string concatenation. For example:
\"@ext("./my_script.py " "#A0#" #",0)
This is really cool and makes my table next level!

I'm just trying variations on something like this

\"@ext("echo", "A1 #")
\"@ext("echo", @sval("A",1))

Not panning out so far, but instead of syntax error the second one returns "error in slet - exprerr"

Ok I'm starting to get somewhere with the string concatenate operator

\"@ext("echo " # A1,0)

which yields "Value 0"

I still wonder: Instead of passing in zero, is there a way to actually get the string into the argument directly?

I've now begun experimenting with my own files. A basic echo that only grabs the first argument worked well. However this leads to a seg fault when called

echo -n $1 | openssl dgst -md5 | awk '{print $2}'

I see the value return in sc-im before it crashes

echo -n $1 | openssl dgst -md5 | cut -d' ' -f2

This appears to maybe work, but I'm seeing ***** now

All in all I suppose it works and hashes are just very long

You have to enter:
