Description
Tell us about your request
I would like to request the addition of an official, real-time counter or dashboard showing the total number of container images hosted on Docker Hub. This metric should be updated regularly to provide a clear and transparent view of Docker Hub’s scale.
Which service(s) is this request for?
Docker Hub — the public container image registry service.
Tell us about the problem you're trying to solve. What are you trying to do, and why is it hard?
Currently, the total number of images on Docker Hub is estimated only through external analyses by third parties. There is no official, publicly available metric or API endpoint that provides this data in real time or on a regular basis, which complicates understanding the growth and scope of the Docker image ecosystem.
Are you currently working around the issue?
No effective workaround exists besides relying on separate studies or data scraping, which can be inaccurate or outdated. Having an official counter would greatly simplify this.
Additional context
Many users and developers have expressed interest in more transparent and reliable statistics about Docker Hub contents. A public API endpoint or dashboard would not only increase transparency and community trust but also provide useful insights for monitoring trends and usage over time.
