Restyle button group to be more like menu rather than action buttons

Hey folks,

I wanted to bring up the styling of the segmented control. Right now, the active button uses the same style as a menu item, but I think that’s a mistake.

In a segmented control, the active state represents a selected view rather than an action trigger, so visually it should align more with how we show selected items in a menu — not with how we style buttons or actions.

Few reasons why adjusting the style would improve clarity and consistency:

• Users already associate the “filled” or highlighted style with selection. Reusing that same visual pattern makes it immediately clear which view is currently active.
• Right now, the current styling makes both segments look like separate buttons, which can confuse users into thinking both are independent actions instead of mutually exclusive states.
• Using the same “selected” style as menus or tabs creates a more unified design system and smoother transitions between components.

The closest component we have to a Segmented Control is the Button Group which might perform like this one. But playing with the last version of the Button Group you can get the combination you are requesting. We might discuss to make this configuration the default one, but it will bias the Button Group component toward a Segmented Control behaviour and deviate from other usages or patterns. BTW I like the definition of this component in the The Component Gallery

As discussed with @r4zr32d3k1l we kicked off the work on improving the Button Group component and we moved this feedback to the PRD document to address it during next quarter. So hoping to get more updated during the upcoming 3 months.
