can not install gastby-plugin-gatsby-cloud into a gatsby 3.12.1 site

It looks like this plugin wants gatsby v4, which is surprising, but i might be missing something. I get the following error when installing via

npm i gatsby-plugin-gatsby-cloud

turns out i had to update everything with --legacy-peer-deps, not sure how this happened, could be the npm version im using (7.7.6)
