There are 3 APKs an each release - two are deprecated and you should use the *-release build going forward. The deprecated builds will be removed for the 7.5.0 release:

• *-release: This is an official release build, like that on F-Droid or Google Play. The signing certificate hash is D3:B7:CB:BC:63:3F:7C:1B:E2:CA:A2:F7:5F:B0:72:EE:9B:40:FD:10:FA:AF:96:42:69:2B:27:C4:AF:5E:C4:A7 (SHA256)

Deprecated builds - see comment for details

• *-dev: This is a debug build, similar to the builds from Android Studio. This has a few extra features enabled, including early in development features. See the README for details on what extra features this has. It will be slower than the release builds.
• *-github-release: This is an optimized release build, like that on F-Droid or Google Play. The signing certificate hash is D3:B7:CB:BC:63:3F:7C:1B:E2:CA:A2:F7:5F:B0:72:EE:9B:40:FD:10:FA:AF:96:42:69:2B:27:C4:AF:5E:C4:A7 (SHA256)

Starting with 7.2.0 the *-dev and *-github-release APKs will be deprecated. There will be a new *-release APK with the same signing certificate as the github-release but the package ID of com.kylecorry.trail_sense.

See #3127 for the rationale.

ACTION REQUIRED

If you currently use the dev or github-release APK variants, you will need to switch to the new release variant by the 7.5.0 build (likely in December).

The new app will install alongside those variants (if you are using Play Store or F-Droid builds, you will need to choose between those or the GitHub as it can't be installed alongside them).

To port your data to the new variant:

1. Open Trail Sense, then Tools > Settings > Backup / restore > Backup. Select a location on your device for the backup file.
2. Download and install the new app, then open it. Go to Tools > Settings > Backup / restore > Restore. Select the backup file and let it restore your settings.
3. Open the Diagnostics tool to see what permissions are missing so you can adjust as needed.
4. If you had a higher resolution DEM installed, open Tools > Settings > Sensors > Altimeter > Digital elevation model (DEM). Download and import the DEM on your choice.
5. If you had automatic backup enabled, disable it on the new build and re-enable. Then select the folder you want backups to. If you forget to do this, the new app will not have permissions and you will receive a notification stating that during the next attempted backup.
6. Verify everything is working as expected and then you can uninstall the old APK. To help figure out which is which, long press the app in your launcher and open the App Info. Scroll to the bottom to see the version or package name. The old builds had a package name of com.kylecorry.trail_sense.dev and com.kylecorry.trail_sense.github. The new one has a package name of com.kylecorry.trail_sense. The version number of the new build will just be 7.X.X while the others will have -dev or -github at the end. Once you identify the old build, use the uninstall button from the App Info page.
