{fragment} not working #5

Hi,
First of thanks for this very useful plugin, it's been a great help so far. I have now just ran into a problem with the {fragment} tag not working.
I am not sure if this is an actual issue or just me missing something, but I can't get the {fragment} tag to work on my EE site. The tag just gets returned as is if I use it in one of the templates. I can get {last_segment} and {query_string}, etc to work. I assume it has something to do with PHP (maybe a setting of some sort?).
There's no mention of anything specific to do in the documentation from what I can see.
Any help?
