lualatex not found

Hi guys!

Not at all an expert of Pandoc tooling here.

I'm on macOS, I've installed Pandoc and I have the following configuration on my book.toml:

[output.pandoc.profile.pdf]
output-file = "book.pdf"
pdf-engine = "lualatex"

The mdbook build command returns the following error:

lualatex not found. Please select a different --pdf-engine or install lualatex
pandoc exited unsuccessfully
2025-08-28 16:06:48 [ERROR] (mdbook::renderer): Renderer exited with non-zero return code.
2025-08-28 16:06:48 [ERROR] (mdbook::utils): Error: Rendering failed
2025-08-28 16:06:48 [ERROR] (mdbook::utils):    Caused By: The "pandoc" renderer failed

I wasn't able to find any support on how to add LuaTeX, anyone has some insight?

You'll want to install a TeX distribution (see https://www.latex-project.org/get/#tex-distributions), which is separate from Pandoc

I have BasicTeX installed, should I switch to the full MacTeX?

I've switched to the full MacTeX and the error persists, any other idea?

Ok, adding /Library/TeX/texbin to the PATH did the trick!

Closing this as answered although I'm now having the error that is being discussed in #201.
