recent map picker code in radiolog seems like the right way to go - but that's a PyQt5 GUI solution. This module currently doesn't have any GUI interface. Is there anything to add here? Maybe another class, so that you could do 'from caltopo_python import caltopoGUI' or such?

recently added function getAccountsAndFolders would be helpful in making a browser GUI, if it ever happens
