Is there a way to disable an addon without impacting the config committed to git?

Hi !

I am in a situation where I want to use ddev with the following stack:

• A webserver with PHP
• A database
• Phpmyadmin

However, my coworker already have a custom phpmyadmin setup with theme and plugins they customized.

Is there a way for him to disable the phpmyadmin add-on just like we can disable the db container with omit_containers but for add-ons?

ddev service disable is close but it moves the file to a .disabled-services so it induce file change in tracked files (and it's deprecated).

ddev addon remove just straight up delete the addon so it's no go too.

So, is there a way to override the list of services from a file a user can configure and gitignore to have a "local user only config" (just like config.*.yaml actually)?

Yes, we have an option for that.

The phpmyadmin service can be defined as optional by adding this file .ddev/docker-compose.phpmyadmin_extra.yaml:

services:
  phpmyadmin:
    profiles:
      - phpmyadmin

Then edit the .ddev/commands/host/phpmyadmin file by removing the #ddev-generated line and adding this at the script start:

# Start phpmyadmin if it's not started
ddev exec -s phpmyadmin true >/dev/null 2>&1 || ddev start --profiles phpmyadmin

Commit these two files to git, and with this setup, phpmyadmin will only be started on demand by using:

ddev phpmyadmin

Remember to add ddev_version_constraint:

ddev_version_constraint: '>= v1.24.4'

to your .ddev/config.yaml if you don't already have it. This feature was added in v1.24.4.

Thx for the reply and your ideas for a solution.

This is not quite what I'm looking for but it helped me understand how ddev overriding of config (both config.yaml, docker compose configs and traefik).

I've concluded that, for now, I can't make ddev act the way I wish without overriding almost everything to the point I even need to override the router's config (there's no simple way to have an add-on exposing a webservice on a sub domain and not a random port for exemple).

I don't have much time to spend on it anymore so I'll just let that on the side for now.
