Maven compiles, but VS Code does not

This project, branch vsctypes, does not compile in VS Code, whereas Maven compiles it without error.

To reproduce, clone this project, checkout branch vsctypes, open it with code . --profile "new" --user-data-dir $HOME/new, trust it, accept to install Extension Pack for Java, and observe the errors spring (for example, “The method get(TSupplier<? extends T,? extends X>) in the type Try is not applicable for the arguments (() -> {})”).
