I think that new ISO mimetype looks worse than the previous one

New ISO mimetype to me looks more like the Papirus icon than the Adwaita one, which previous icon resembled well imo.

Was the reason for the change just adjusting looks or something else?

I wonder what others think.

I don't like it too much either, still looking into it. But I never liked the fact that the zipper was hiding part of the actual type icon on these icons.

The reason for the change is to differentiate packages from archives as such. Besides the default generic archive icon from Adwaita, I had all the different package icons use the same zipper paradigm, which I now think is a bit misleading, because packages are more than just archives. Except for the Java Archive (.jar) mime type, I changed all the package icons to be boxes. Disk images (the same icon is used for .iso, .img and a bunch of other formats) are neither archives (as in they're not compressed) nor packages. So they shouldn't have zippers nor be boxes. The problem with CD image (taken from Adwaita) is that it's too light and gray, and doesn't fit well with any of the Gnome colours as a background. And the symbolic variant from before is too generic, and may resemble completely unrelated stuff like Zen browser for example. So I'm open to suggestions and will experiment some more with this icon myself.

I've now changed it completely using the Impression app's icon on a regular file background and I like it much more this way.
I'm inclined to keep it this way.

I honestly prefer the old red one, but the new one looks good too, I don't mind it. I suppose it makes sense tying it to a GNOME Circle app that handles .iso files.

Looking at all other icons it seems like full-colour elements mostly go on top of white or dark-grey file backgrounds while coloured file backgrounds have white symbolic icons on them. I tried a few combinations, but I didn't really like how it went:

The main goal is to get rid of the zipper on .iso icons. I'm still open to suggestions. Maybe use some watered-down colour for the background of the current icon...

image-5.svg kinda grew on me, honestly... I also like image-2.svg, we're not using terracotta all that much in Morewaita, so it's a nice change!

Then the semi-transparent white is no longer justified because it's like that only to not interfere with the zipper, and full-on white looks ugly. That's why I tried another symbolic icon on the same background in 3.
Adwaita icons mostly use the approach in 4 & 5 - off-white background and full-colour icon on top of that - or go for an icon with no background sheet at all.

I'm definitely sticking with the Impression icon on top of a sheet, just not sure about the sheet's colour. Here are all the iterations (numbered a bit differently than on the previous screenshot):

I like (in no particular order) 7, 9, 12 and 16 the most.

10 makes sense, it's a darker shade of the same orange as the thumb drive. So be it.
