World Edit regen markers

Hi, I'm running into an issue. We're using World Edit to reset some areas when players are banned or left the server but if there was a POI sign, it gets removed but the config is not updating and the marker cannot be removed anymore.
I tried to look at the signs.json but everything is cobbled together without a structure and can't find where the corresponding sign starts and end.

Do you know how the sign gets removed? Is the sign block broken in game? Oris the entire chunk deleted? If the entire chunk is deleted, does the region ever get reused for other players? I can look into mechanisms for removing markers, but I also wanted to let you k ow that the next time that a chunk with a "missing" sign is visited, the marker should get removed from the config.

The areas are restore to default by a world edit command called //regen, we use corners with //pos1 and 2 and regen just the area where the base was. I've seen that destroying manually a sign removes the POI but with this method it doesn't.
I manage to isolate a player in the signs.json and I removed the lines corresponding to it but the marker is still there. I am also currently where the marker is showing but the map isn't updating the old marker.

I'll have to check the code again to see if the signs.json file gets updated immediately or after a server shutdown. Do you see any server log entries about a sign being removed?

The last sign removed was a couple of weeks ago so no chances to find in which log is that but I just restarted the server and went where one of the sign was and nothing on the console. The POI is still on the bluemap

Edit: A while ago I tried to replace a sign at the exact spot with the same name, it did got rid a it for a short time and the POI came back, I think after the following daily server restart

Ok, I think I have enough info to dig into this one. I'm away from my main dev computer until next week. I can look through the code some, but I won't be able to start any changes until then.

I have looked back in the code history and was mistaken about the mod reloading the markers when a chunk is loaded. It has never had any logic for when the chunks are loaded.

I think it would be a good enhancement to refresh the signs in a chunk on the chunk load event. However, I am concerned that the current method of storing the signs - on disk and in memory - will lead to poor performance when attempting to find the signs for a given chunk (primarily on servers with lots of signs).

I'm going to create 2 additional issues to track the following items:

• Refactoring sign storage (on disk and in memory) [Refactoring sign storage (on disk and in memory) #109]
• On chunk load, refresh signs from that chunk [Refresh signs on chunk load #110]

Both of these should take care of the problem that you're having with the regenerated chunks.
I'll continue to think about some more administrative functionality to assist with sign management, but I won't commit to opening an issue for that yet.
