VRL unit tests are running very slowly

Question

I'm wondering if we're doing something wrong when it comes to running tests, since execution seems very slow (particularly since Vector's performance is otherwise very fast).

One of our configurations has 47 components of varying sizes (mostly remaps) and 135 unit tests with the following performance:

$ time vector test *.toml
real	0m32.557s
user	0m32.168s
sys	0m0.325s

32s doesn't sound apocalyptic. We have several configurations of similar size and it eventually adds up to a pretty long CI/CD run. I'm wondering if either we're doing something wrong, or if Vector must recompile the entire pipeline configuration on each unit test.

Unfortunately I can't share my config. :(
