Tried visit for the first time - it crashed :(

I just installed Visit 3.4.2 on an Ubuntu 24.04 system that uses NVIDIA drivers (570.169). When I went to the bin directory and typed "visit" it crashed with the following output

$ ./visit
Running: gui3.4.2
Running: viewer3.4.2 -geometry 3080x1440+360+0 -borders 26,4,4,4 -shift 0,0 -preshift 4,26 -defer -host 127.0.0.1 -port 5600

I have very little to go on - any debugging tips?

Oops - forgot to say that I've scanned the logs and I haven't anything useful.

Did you try visit -debug 5 to generate the logs? The viewer vlog and gui vlog would have the salient info. Can you share those?

VisIt is having an issue with GL.

Qt: Warning: QXcbIntegration: Cannot create platform OpenGL context, neither GLX nor EGL are enabled
Qt: Warning: QOpenGLWidget: Failed to create context

Can you try this version:
https://github.com/visit-dav/visit/releases/download/v3.4.2/visit3_4_2.linux-x86_64-ubuntu24-test1.tar.gz

We don't have a binary 3.4.2 Ubuntu binary with mesa, but it if did I think that would solve your issue.

Note: VisIt 3.5.0 will have new version of VTK with better OpenGL support.

I just tried it - no joy. I will go look around on how to properly install OpenGL on Ubuntu.

Sorry that didn't help, as I mentioned Visit 3.5.0 will have a new way of using OpenGL, we will let you know when that release is ready

If it helps, I can run glxgears (I'm seeing errors about neither GLX or EGL being enabled).
