URL for submodule changed, breaks install guide.

The URL for a submodule of a submodule changed, and that makes the full installation guide fail at
git submodule update --init --recursive

The solution is to use git submodule sync --recursive and can trivially be found by searching the issue tracker, or reading CONTRIBUTING.md (first).

Maybe I'm missing something. The issue seems to be in a different repository. Until it's fixed there, the install guide here won't work. This issue was meant as a notification until that happens.

Our CI runs every commit and does git submodule update --init --recursive so I don't get the problem ?

The pathtools project has this submodule git://github.com/mitsuhiko/flask-sphinx-themes.git and the URL seems to have changed. The cloning operation times out.

No, that means you have a network issue (probably a firewall):

Why can't we just use the https:// URL for this this submodule? That would prevent such network / firewall issues all together (assuming http proxy is correctly configured).

Because it's not up to us. That useless submodule is a dependency of a dependency of a YCM dependency. YCM uses watchdog, which needs pathtools, which, stupidly, uses that theme thing as a submodule.

As for https not causing troubles, pybind11 people would disagree:
