The initial startup time is 5x slower than VSode

I use 0.197.5 Zed version on Arch 6.15.9-arch1-1 via Pacman.

My startup times are very disappointing 15s, and VScode maybe 3-4s?
Of course, after the initial launch, Zed is extremely fast and activates in 1-2 seconds.

Is this expected behavior?

Does not look very expected, but I'm not certain what I'm looking at:

Is "activating" denoting focusing here or reopening or?
For me on both mac and Linux, startup times take fractions of a second but maybe I have a much beefier set-up.

I have long startup time only when I turn on the computer and open Zed for the first time.

I have a Ryzen 5800x / Radeon 7900xt / 32gb ram - I think it's a pretty decent configuration.

So far you're the only one out of us both who can repro that, but luckily you're on Linux and can use perf and other tools to introspect the process start-up and answer this.

One odd random idea I have is a GPU "startup" — could be that Zed waits for the device/drivers at the first time?
1-2 seconds to open Zed sounds not normal at all too.

Do you use Wayland? I think I've found the cause of the problem – it runs quite slowly in i3 compared to Wayland.

I barely use Linux but yes, it's usually Wayland + Gnome when I do.

Ok thanks - so probably Zed is slower on Xorg

On wayland Zed starts instantly on my PC :)
