This is the list of examples that have been tested in the FENIAX program. The examples and their categories are expected to keep growing.

  • Usually inside each example there is a form of settings.py file that when run as “python settings.py” generates a results folder with the output of the simulation (don’t forget to activate your python environment if using a package manager).
  • For postprocessing, we have develop a small dashboard application intended for productivity: plots of the various inputs and outputs of the program are generated automatically allowing fast visualisation and results assessment.
    • Plotly is used as the back-end for interactive graphics generation and Streamlit is the front-end for the user (they are installed when pip install .[all] is used).
    • Navigate to Streamlit folder and launch as “streamlit run Home.py”. This launches a process in your web browser.
    • In the Home page select your results folder from previous step and start navigating the app to explore results.
  • Most of these examples have also been made into a test case of the FENIAX repository, check link.

  • Representative aircraft configuration made out of composite shells.
  • Nonlinear static response for wing tip follower forces verified and benchmarked against MSC Nastran sol 400.
  • AD on static problems verified against Finite-differences.

Dynamic problems

Pendulum

  • Rigid pendulum free-falling under gravity.
  • Comparison against analytical solution.
  • Used to validate implementation of gravity forces.

RafaBeam

  • Clamped, slender cantilever made out of shell elements undergoing nonlinear free vibrations in response to initial velocity field.

  • Verified against Nastran and literature.

RafaFlyingBeam

  • 3-mass beam in-plane free flying.
  • Comparison with analytical solution.

  • Sail Plane clamped wing.
  • Nonlinear dynamic response for wing tip follower forces verified and benchmarked against MSC Nastran sol 400.
  • AD on dynamic problems verified against Finite-differences.

Aeroelastic simulations

Note: The XRF1 is not an open-source model and therefore cannot be openly run. It is however the largest model we have run and an important element to keep maintained as to ensure the code works on industrial platforms. Therefore private tests have been setup for validation as the codebase evolves.

Static problems
