I would be really happy to see this merged. I need to hold a php class for first year engineering students and I would like to use c9 to speed setup up. But if that mean using php5 I'm stuck in a dilemma :D |

So long as you're looking to update the PHP workspace (although this has been sitting in PR for 2 years now), what about updating Ubuntu from 14.04 to either 16.04 or 18.04 (coming out in a month)? |

Use phpbrew in default workspace and use it to handle composer installtion.
Install php7 for use in php workspace
Needs updates to the runners to handle phpbrew
