While usually getting the build folder is done very quickly, there are cases (when using TRAMP) where it can be slow. Since this is a common operation, it's a good idea to cache the build folder to only pay the cost when necessary (such as after changing the configure preset).
The build folder cache is also added to the state file when persistence is used.
