A thin Python library for the Abode alarm API.

Disclaimer:

"Abode" is a trademark owned by Abode Systems, Inc.; see www.goabode.com for more information.

Thanks to Abode for having a relatively simple API to reverse engineer. Maybe in the future Abode will open it up for official use.

API calls faster than 60 seconds is not recommended as it can overwhelm Abode's servers. Leverage the cloud push event notification functionality as much as possible. Please use this module responsibly.

2022-10-18 20:30:18 INFO (MainThread) [jaraco.abode] Updating all devices...
2022-10-18 20:30:18 INFO (MainThread) [jaraco.abode] Login successful
2022-10-18 20:30:19 INFO (MainThread) [jaraco.abode] Logout successful

Pass --username with each invocation or set the environment variable ABODE_USERNAME in the environment.

Get the current alarm mode:

$ abode --mode

  Mode: standby

Set the alarm mode to one of 'standby', 'home', or 'away':

$ abode --arm home

  Mode set to: home

List all devices and their current states:

$ abode --devices

  Device Name: Glass Break Sensor, Device ID: RF:xxxxxxxx, Device Type: GLASS, Device Status: Online
  Device Name: Keypad, Device ID: RF:xxxxxxxx, Device Type: Keypad, Device Status: Online
  Device Name: Remote, Device ID: RF:xxxxxxxx, Device Type: Remote Controller, Device Status: Online
  Device Name: Garage Entry Door, Device ID: RF:xxxxxxxx, Device Type: Door Contact, Device Status: Closed

Query the current state of a specific device using the device id:

$ abode --device ZW:xxxxxxxx

  Device Name: Garage Door Deadbolt, Device ID: ZW:xxxxxxxx, Device Type: Door Lock, Device Status: LockClosed

Query multiple specific devices by device id:

$ abode --device ZW:xxxxxxxx --device RF:xxxxxxxx

  Device Name: Garage Door Deadbolt, Device ID: ZW:xxxxxxxx, Device Type: Door Lock, Device Status: LockClosed
  Device Name: Back Door, Device ID: RF:xxxxxxxx, Device Type: Door Contact, Device Status: Closed

Switch a device on or off, or lock and unlock a device by passing multiple arguments:

$ abode --lock ZW:xxxxxxxx --switchOn ZW:xxxxxxxx

  Locked device with id: ZW:xxxxxxxx
  Switched on device with id: ZW:xxxxxxxx

Block and listen for all mode and change events as they occur:

$ abode --listen

  No devices specified, adding all devices to listener...
  Listening for device updates...

  Device Name: Alarm area_1, Device ID: area_1, Status: home, At: 2017-05-27 11:13:59
  Device update listening stopped.

If you specify one or more devices with the --device argument along with the --listen command then only those devices will listen for change events.

Keyboard interrupt (CTRL+C) to exit listening mode.

To obtain a list of automations:

$ abode --automations

  Deadbolts Lock Home (ID: 6) - status - active
  Auto Home (ID: 3) - location - active
  Lock Garage Quick Action (ID: 7) - manual - active
  Deadbolts Lock Away (ID: 5) - status - active

  Auto Away (ID: 2) - location - active
  Sleep Mode (ID: 1) - schedule - active

To activate or deactivate an automation:

$ abode --activate 1

  Activated automation with id: 1

To trigger a manual (quick) automation:

$ abode --trigger 7

  Triggered automation with id: 1

Trigger a Manual Alarm

Trigger a manual alarm by type (useful for testing or emergency scenarios):

$ abode --trigger-alarm PANIC

  Triggered manual alarm of type: PANIC

Available alarm types:

PANIC         - Panic alarm
SILENT_PANIC  - Silent panic alarm
MEDICAL       - Medical emergency

BURGLAR       - Burglar/intrusion alarm

Timeline Events

Acknowledge a timeline event after it has been triggered:

$ abode --acknowledge-event 12345

  Acknowledged timeline event: 12345

Dismiss (ignore) a timeline event:

$ abode --dismiss-event 12345

  Dismissed timeline event: 12345

Test Mode

Test mode allows you to test your alarm system without dispatching alerts to the monitoring service. When enabled, any triggered alarms will not be sent to emergency services. Test mode automatically turns off after 30 minutes.

Check the current test mode status:

$ abode --test-mode-status

  Test mode is currently: disabled

Enable test mode:

$ abode --test-mode-enable

  Test mode enabled (automatically turns off after 30 minutes)

Disable test mode:

$ abode --test-mode-disable

  Test mode disabled

Python API Usage

You can also control test mode programmatically:

import jaraco.abode

# Initialize the client
client = jaraco.abode.Client(username='[email protected]', password='your_password')
client.login()

# Check test mode status
is_test_mode = client.get_test_mode()
print(f"Test mode is: {'enabled' if is_test_mode else 'disabled'}")

# Enable test mode
result = client.set_test_mode(True)
print("Test mode enabled")

# Disable test mode
result = client.set_test_mode(False)
print("Test mode disabled")
