Bifrost is a 3D Radiative magnetohydrodynamics code used to simulate the solar surface and atmosphere. Its explicit and is using embarrassingly simple MPI parallelisation. It therefore only communicates with nearest neighbours, except for the complicated radiative transfer module. At this point the radiation is using large amounts of memory and needs to communicate globally. We will concentrate on two things during this hackaton: Minimising the memory footprint, and investigate the possibility of splitting the radiation off to run on the CPU while the MHD runs on GPUs.
