Overview

The application is AU3X, an in-house CFD solver originally developed by Prof. Luca di Mare at Imperial College London and earmarked as a candidate component for Engineering Systems Design at Rolls-Royce plc. AU3X solves the Navier-Stokes equations with cell-centred finite volume methods. The code can solve the unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations in the time and frequency domains, and also filtered NS equations for scale-resolving simulations (e.g large eddy simulations). The code has been validated extensively on the compression system of aero-engines and is capable of performing high fidelity multi-stage and whole gas path simulations.
